The Munich Security Conference is an annual conference of foreign policy and security leaders, where the president of Ukraine was addressing.
If the West did not oppose Putin, he threatened to make the upcoming years "catastrophic" for a great number of nations.
His remarks were made just hours after his military leader said that he was pulling out soldiers from Avdiivka, a city in the east.
Breitbart reports: With limited ammo supplies and a manpower shortfall, Ukraine is once again going on the defensive against Russia in the almost two-year-old conflict.
"Ukrainians have demonstrated our ability to compel Russia to withdraw," he declared. "We have the ability to reclaim our territory, and it is possible for (Russian President Vladimir) Putin to lose—this has already occurred on multiple occasions in combat."
He went on, "Our actions are limited only by... our strength," making reference to the circumstances in Avdiivka. In order to prevent encirclement and preserve soldier lives, Ukrainian commander Col. Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi said early on Saturday that he was evacuating forces from the city, after outnumbered defenders fought a Russian onslaught for four months.
"Unfortunately, my friends, Putin is able to adjust to the current intensity of the war by keeping Ukraine in a state of artificial weapon deficit, especially with regard to artillery and long-range capabilities," Zelensky stated. "Our shared results are undermined over time by democracy's self-weakening."
The president underlined the importance of protecting the lives of Ukrainian servicemen while declaring that the army withdrawal was "a correct decision." He implied that not much had been accomplished by Russia, pointing out that since October, it has been attacking Avdiivka "with all the power that they had" and had lost hundreds of soldiers. They are losing ground in their army.
He went on, referring to the dearth of long-range weaponry, "We're just waiting for weapons that we're short of." "For this reason, our people, our soldiers, are our weapon today."
Following a similar arrangement with Britain last month, Zelensky traveled to Berlin and Paris on Friday and inked long-term bilateral security agreements with both countries.
The European allies of Ukraine are pleading with the US Congress to adopt a package that includes funding for the country, $60 billion of which would mostly go to US defense companies for the production of weapons, missiles, and other military gear for use on Ukrainian battlefields. There is opposition to the deal from House Republicans.
Zelenskyy hailed Washington for its bipartisan support and stated on Saturday that the United States "did a lot for us." He said he will be meeting with senators from the United States on Saturday in Munich. "They must realize that we can only defeat Russia by uniting," he stated.
