Seattle High School Students Told That 'Reading and Writing' Is 'White Supremacist'
High school pupils in Seattle have been instructed that if they enjoy reading and writing, they are practicing "white supremacy" since literature is inherently racist.
As part of Black Lives Matter at School Week, World Literature and Composition students at Lincoln High School were handed a handout with definitions of the "9 characteristics of white supremacy," according to a student's father, who was disturbed by the contents. Given the subject matter of the class, the parent thought it weird that this specific lesson was brought up.
The high school pupils were instructed that "Worship of the Written Word" is "white supremacy" because it is "an erasure of the wide range of ways we communicate with each other."
According to this notion, literature is inherently racist. Reading and writing are racist. It also asserts that we only value written communication because it represents "honoring only what is written, and even then only what is written to a narrow standard, full of misinformation and lies." Huh?!
The parent said on the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH, "I feel bad for any students who actually internalize stuff like this as it is setting them up for failure."
According to the KTTH article, the father requested anonymity out of concern that Seattle Public Schools might take revenge on his child. He claimed that the worksheet's other sections were just as unsettling.
The father contends that the ideas are "incoherent and incapable of withstanding any kind of rational examination." He also points out that it's designed to make sure pupils grasp every idea without ever challenging the assertions made.
In what way can a fifteen-year-old student protest in class when "denial and defensiveness" are hallmarks of white supremacist ideology? This really is a case of educational malpractice.
